Le Breton
This featured art piece is a contemporary bronze sculpture entitled “Le Breton” by acclaimed sculptor Liz Lewis of Bozeman, Montana, USA. The piece was produced during 2020, with the model for the piece being a French bred Epagneul Breton by the name of Hermes de L’Ardour. Hermes was later imported to the United States.
The artist and her family own an Epagneul Breton by the name of “Cedar” which captured her imagination and served as a partial inspiration for undertaking the project to depict an Epagneul Breton in the artistic medium of Bronze. Liz watched Hermes work on a Montana evening and snapped a photograph of the male Epagneul Breton pointing a liberated red legged partridge, with his nose slightly elevated into the prevailing wind. That photograph captured the pose depicted in the bronze work of art which she entitled “Le Breton.” From the photograph and her mind’s eye for detail, she began molding a working model in clay. As the art piece neared the final stages, she had two final sessions where she observed Hermes in person to go over the fine details of his physical structure; once at his home, and later in her studio. The art piece is finished in a “Bourbon Brown” patina and is being produced in a limited edition of twenty (20) pieces. This exceptional piece of contemporary interpretation of the conformation of the Epagneul Breton rivals the classic work of the famous French animal sculptor, the late Richard Fath who also interpreted the Epagneul Breton in both bronze and terra cotta art pieces during the previous century.
