Foundation receives IRS tax exempt designation

The U.S. Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, and the Montana Department of Revenue have granted The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc. to be designated as a tax exempt entity pursuant to Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) as well as under State Law. Accordingly, The Epagneul Breton Foundation, Inc. is now formally designated as a private operating foundation and will be treated as such under the applicable IRS rules for this type of legal entity. This formal designation by the IRS permits donors to the foundation to deduct their contributions as charitable donations pursuant to Internal Revenue Code Section 170. It also makes the foundation eligible to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under the code regulations application to each type of bequest or gift, which will advance the mission of the foundation as an entity established exclusively for educational, charitable and scientific purposes.

Focus on appreciation

The foundation has received memorial donations in memory of the late John Morris. It has also received separate honorary donations in honor of Mrs. Pat Dalrymple and Fred Overby. These donations are greatly appreciated by the Foundation and the respective honorees.

Special appreciation is expressed to Mr. Bob Fleury of North Stonington, Connecticut  who serves on the board of the American Brittany Club and the Bird Dog Museum in Grand Junction, Tennessee. Mr Fleury recently supplied the foundation with letters, articles, correspondence and antiquated documentation about the early history of the first dogs of Epagneul Breton ancestry which were imported from France to the United States. He also supplied information about the dogs bred in America which were sent to France after World War II as a gesture of asistance to the French CEB in attempting to rebuild the breed in the country of origin after the Great War took its toll. Mr. Fleury also kindly supplied additional background information regarding the history, origins and present whereabouts of castings of the "Iron Dog Bronz" by French sculptor and artist Richard Fath, which is the featured art piece for this issue.

Foundation features bronze sculpture by artist Richard Fath

The featured artwork for this period is a bronze sculpture of an Epagneul Breton by the French animal sculptor Richard Fath (France 1900 - 1952), whose favorite subject was dogs. Fath is widely known and respected for his interpretations of the Epagneul Breton. This particular bronze scupture is sometimes referenced in the United States as the "Iron Dog Bronze."
