Foundation takes over management of scholarship fund
The CEB-US Board of Directors transferred the funds composing the Joyce Smith Memorial Scholarship fund to The Epagneul Breton Foundation Inc. for investment and management. This decision will provide a number of benefits to grow and effectively manage the scholarship fund. It will allow the memorial scholarship fund to grow over time through investing the principal and earnings, as the foundation has realized consistent gains over the past year via a portfolio made up of balanced mutual funds. Second, having the fund held and managed by the foundation will permit donors making future contributions to the scholarship fund to deduct those donations as charitable contributions made to a 501(c)(3) charitable entity for income tax purposes. Finally, having the foundation assume supervision for investment and management will assist the foundation in connection with its educational purposes, which is a legal requirement to qualify for and continue to remain eligible for designation as a 501(c)(3) charitable entity by the IRS. CEB-US will continue to review and decide which applicants receive the scholarship.
Foundation receives donations and memorials
In addition to the transfer of the Joyce Smith Scholarship Fund and some smaller donations throughout the year, the foundation received generous donations at the Gold Level this year from Norman and Judy Pope, Drew Ambos, Fred Overby, Forrest Ward and Larry Kimbler. An additional honorary donation was made by Jim and Fatmi Anders and several memorial donations in memory of deceased CEB-US member John Stonie Patterson have been received from Dudley and Dani Horton, the Epagneul Breton Gun Dog Club of Georgia and other friends of the decedent. The Foundation Trustees express sincere appreciation for each of these generous donations which will aid the foundation in its mission. Anyone desiring to make a charitable donation to the Joyce Smith Scholarship Fund or to the foundation’s general fund may designate the gift as being for the scholarship or general fund. See Support Us for donation options and contact information.
